MT Deo Tibba Trek

Chopta one of the beautiful trek  of the uttrakhand ,Also popularly known as ‘Mini Switzerland. . It is located at an elevation of 2680 metres  above sea level. Chopta is simply accessible as it is situated on the road connecting Gopeshwar with Guptkashi. Wake up with cool healthy breeze and chirping of birds in chopta . Chopta village is surrounded by forests of pine, deodar and rhododendron and is rich in flora and fauna include rare species of birds and musk deer.

The holy Tugnath temple is situated at an altitude of 3400m and just below the peak of chandershila. It is one of the highest Shiva temple in the world. If you are looking for a snowy trek than you must go on this trek in the months of December and January when heavy snowfall takes place.. It has a rich legend linked to the Pandavas, heroes of the Mahabharata epic.  The Pandavas built temples at each of these locations to worship and venerate Lord Shiva, seeking his pardon and blessings. Each temple is identified with a part of the bull or Shiva’s body; The priest at this temple is a local Brahmin unlike the other Kedar temples where the priests are from South India, a tradition set by the eighth century Hindu seer Sankaracharya. It is also said that the Maithani Brahmins officiate as priests at this temple. During the winter season, the temple is closed and the symbolic image of the deity and the temple priests are moved to Makkumath, which is 29km from here. The best time to visit the temple is from April to September. Due to heavy snowfall, Tungnath temple remains closed for around 6 months during winter.

This Chandrashila Trek is comparatively easy making it suitable for beginners and also for children. Chandrashila is summit of the Tungnath. It literally means “Moon Rock”.It is located at a height of about 4000m above sea level. Golden-breasted eagles too are a normal sight from the summit.  The path is surrounded by scenic views and captivating flora and fauna on both sides.  This trek would start and end in Rishikesh, This trek would also start your lifelong tryst with trekking in the Himalayas. It is said that Lord Rama meditated at the Chandrashila peak which is close to Tungnath. It is also said that Ravana performed penance to Shiva, the lord of the peaks, when he resided here.

DETAILED ITINERARY

Start early after breakfast.

Listen to music, play antakshari, chit-chat with your fellow passengers or find some other alternative to spend 7 to 8 hrs in the vehicle.

It is a long drive to reach Duggalbitta, which are small beautiful meadows where we will check in to the beautiful campsite.

The day is kept at your leisure, with options of spending the day resting, clicking photographs, going for short walks around the meadows or interacting with the locals and fellow travellers.

Rise-up to the mountain morning, this is going to be a tough day since you will have a lot to look forward to!

Begin the trek full of tales and extended walk to a steep gradient.

During this 6 km long trek, you shall get to experience the land of legends.

At 3680 m reach Tungnath, one of the Panch Kedars. Tungnath is the highest Shiva Temple in the world.

Just trek for a few more km and reach the highest destination of this trek – Chandrashila Peak.

From here, get a 180-degree view of higher Himalayan peaks such as Nanda Devi, Bandarpunch, Chaukhamba, and Kedar Peak.

Later, start the descent back to Chopta.

Dinner and overnight stay at Chopta.
