DETAILED ITINERARY

We pick up you from Leh airport on your arrival at Leh and transfer to hotel. Rest of the day free to acclimatize. In the evening take a walking tour in the local Leh market.

 

Overnight: Hotel

Enjoy the Cultural and natural beauty of Leh toad as you are going to visit some of the most important tourist places in Leh. In the morning after breakfast you will drive to visit Shey Palace or Gompa, later visit Thiksey monastery, & Hemis Gompa.

Return back to hotel and relax. In the evening visit Leh Palace and Shanti Stupa.

Overnight: Hotel

Enjoy a great drive to Stok Village and have an enjoyable first day of trek to reach Chang Ma. Your day will start with a drive to Stok village. Your drive In the beginning would go through many exotic and beautiful scenes. The drive to the Stok village is an adventurous one with full of natural beauty and lush green trees. The Stok village is situated south of Leh and it is well known for a royal palace. The recently crowned king of Ladakh lives here. There is also a small museum inside the palace which has beautiful and religious artefacts.

 

On arrival at Stok village we trek to Chang Ma. This might be a difficult trek and you may experience the joy of a snow trek. You would like to spend the night here and the overnight stay would be in tents in the open lands.

 

Dinner & Overnight: Camps

The entire trek today passes through the barren grey landscape of Ladakh. Fairly an easy day to trek along the river. Today you will see the real beauty of Ladakh and you will get the answer why Ladakh is known as Cold Desert. During the trek you will cross small streams 2 – 3 times. You are going to love overnight stay in Tents.

 

Dinner & Overnight: Tents

Wake up in the morning and enjoy a hot cup of tea or coffee. After breakfast we set foot on the trail to the base camp. The trail from Mankorma to the Stok Kangri Base Camp can be classified as moderately difficult and strenuous. It is an adventure filled journey with walking on ice or snow, to crossing rivers. Though you will find climbing and breathing difficult, but the beautiful scenery compensates for it and make it wonderful excursion.

The trail becomes smoother and wider after crossing a hissing river. You will also find numerous alpine lakes and meadows along the way.

On reaching the basecamp enjoy a cup of tea or coffee with some cookies or kitchen team can serve you with hot Maggie.

 

Dinner & Overnight: Camps

Not hiking today as we are going to have a rest day for better acclimatisation. You can enjoy a walk around the campsite and get familiar with the place. Meet your trek guide and know the possibilities and challenges that are involved further. Your challenge leader and guide would let you know about all the different challenges you may find on the terrain. You should have adequate knowledge and experience to go around the mountains.

 

Dinner & Overnights: Camps

Big day today as we are going to summit the Stok Kangri (6120 m). Your day will start with an early wakeup to start the climb. The route goes through glaciers and then comes to steep slopes to the summit ridge. It’s a long climb, so physical and mental fitness is must to have. For a average climber It would take somewhere between 9 to 10 hours. 2 to 3 hours additional for slow climbers. The summit offers you great views of the area. The wide and open surroundings give you a royal feeling. Towards the north, you would get a view of the Karakoram range. The Saser Kangri dominates the sky in the north along with the Karakoram, and the Zanskar ranges in the south.

 

Dinner & Overnight: Tents

The last phase of your Stok Kangri trek will make you travel for 12 km till you reach the village of Stok. On arrival in the village, board a vehicle and drive back to Leh. After you reach the town, transfer to your

lodging and rest for the night.

In the morning departure transfer to Leh airport to Airport.

Q – What is the best time to go for Mt Stok Kangri trek Ladakh?

July – September are the best months to plan a Stok Kangri Trek.

 

Q – What is the fitness level expected from the participants on Stok Kangri Trek?

It makes a lot of sense to spend some time before coming on a climbing holiday getting some additional exercise. The fitter you are, after all, the more enjoyable you will find the experience. For this trek, you need to be aerobically fit and also comfortable with walking for 7 – 8 hours each day over a minimum of 6 months, a proper fitness regime will be sent to you. The best preparation for a trip of this nature is regular hiking in a hill or backcountry, particularly involving sections of steep terrain. One should have an experience of the trek over 14000 ft. done twice. Experience of walking in crampons is useful, although instruction in all necessary techniques for the climb will be given at Base Camp.

 

Q – Which type of shoes should I carry while going on Stok Kangri Trek?

For Stok Kangri trek, you would need good and comfortable trekking shoes that would let you easily go through the ridges and glaciers till the top. The rough roads would hamper your normal shoes and before you buy trekking shoes, be very careful. The boots with thicker and aggressive out-soles can be used for longer treks like Stok Kangri.

 

Select the right type of shoes is essential- for summer season, use low-ankle hiking shoes but if you go on cold conditions, then buy trek boots with industry accredited material used in their build. Waterproof and breathable fabric would be the best. Buy trek boots one size larger than your feet size so you will feel comfortable after wearing multiple socks during winter treks.

The stunning Stok Kangri Peak displays multiple thrills along the way and towers at a height of 20180 ft., the highest altitude is at 6153m.

The Stok Kangri trek does come along with some challenges, some of them being dealing with thin air on high altitudes. For this very reason, the first three days are reserved for acclimatisation. The route taken to the summit is among the shortest.

In the day time the weather is clear, the temperature is around 17 to 10 degrees, but at night times it gets cold and temperature drops up to 0 to -6 degrees. This is a tough trek temperature-wise also.

How cold does it really get on the Stok Kangri trek?

During day time, the weather is clear and warm at Stok Kangri and the temperature would be around 11 degree Celsius. As the night approaches, the temperature drops down to 0 to -6 degree Celsius. But the weather at high altitudes is highly unpredictable too. Hence be prepared with multiple layers of jackets, clothes, socks and gloves.

How will we go Stok Kangri from Leh?

Stok Kangri trekking route is quite a simple one. You begin from Leh and then drive to the Stok village after which the actual trekking begins. The route to be followed is Stok Village – Chang Ma – Mankorma – Base camp – Stok Kangri. With every next destination the altitude keeps on rising and the hike becomes even more difficult. The entire trek almost takes 9 days to complete and the final summit is 20,100 feet high that is Stok Kangri.
